Sew and So’s

The Shalom Project

Habitat 5K

The Hinkle House

Hospitality Visitation

Come join fellow Knollwood members as we give back to our community with one of our most precious assets, our time. Get to know fellow Church members outside of the worship hour. Learn Knollwood at Work stories of our past (such as the member who screwed his work glove to a board, with his hand in it) and participate in the making of stories for the future (is there a minister brave enough to join the Sew and So’s?)

There will be projects suitable for all age levels and physical abilities. We have several family-friendly projects. Nursery care will be provided. If you have any questions, please contact any of the project chairs listed or Rachel Kuhn-Stinehelfer (ledalucy21@yahoo.com).

Work Project Descriptions

The Sew and So’s

The Sew & So's will be be making pillowcase dresses to send to little girls living in extreme poverty. Bring your sewing machines and/or sturdy, colorful, new or very gently-used pillowcases, fabric, ribbons, trims and bias tape, etc. Terrific sewing skills not required, just willing hands and hearts. All ages welcome.

Hinkle House

There is work to do both inside and outside.  Six women currently live at Hinkle House. The work outside is yard work including planting pansies and spreading pine straw, and washing windows. The indoor work involves visiting with the women that live there and playing a game and doing a simple art project.  We usually offer as snack of sugar cookies and a drink. All ages welcome.

Habitat 5K

The First Annual Hammerbird 5K and Fun Run will start and end at the Habitat ReStore. The unique route will take participants through neighborhoods where Habitat is building new homes and renovating existing ones. You can help with Registration / Check In, Handing out Water, Cheering runners on and ending Festivities.
All ages welcome.

Hospitality to Shut-Ins:

Each Wednesday night we hear of a different shut-in at KBC. On KAW, you have the opportunity to visit with a KBC shut-in, listen to their story, share yours, engage in community in new ways. All ages welcome.

The Shalom Project

Come serve at an inter-faith non-profit in West Salem. Yard work, planting, cleaning, and sorting of clothes and food. Older children and up welcome.

Adopt a Stream is a program jointly coordinated with Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful and the Stormwater Division of the City of Winston-Salem.  Help us pick up trash and clean Knollwood’s adopted section of Adopt-A-Stream..  Supplies will be provided. Persons 12 years old and up welcome.
