Children's Worship
First, third and fifth Sundays
1st through 3rd graders

Sunday School is the centerpiece of our Christian Education for children.  We focus on Biblical foundations, fellowship and service.  After Sunday School, we provide Worship Care for the preschoolers so that parents may have their own time for worship.  Elementary-aged children go to worship with their parents to begin learning more about the presence of God, worship, scripture, and community.

Sunday School

Preschool Division
(Infants through Kindergartners)

Rooms B111-B124
Infants through kindergartners are provided a nurturing and caring environment during the Sunday School time.  Activities are designed to develop a positive concept of self and church through a knowledge of God’s world and God’s people surrounding the preschooler.  A creative learning environment is provided through Bible stores, music, and craft activities.

Elementary Division
(First through Fifth Graders)

Rooms B241-254

Children in the elementary division gain greater experience in applying the teachings of the Bible to their own lives. Activities are designed to help these children develop an understanding of the Christian faith as expressed in Scripture, and to apply those lessons to one’s life and the work of the church. These classes use the Shine curriculum including the Shine Story Bible.  Shine: Living in God’s Light is a dynamic Sunday School curriculum that engages Christian communities and families in their life together by:

    • calling children to experience the transforming power of God’s love,

    • nurturing trust in God and inviting children to follow Jesus,

    • encouraging imaginative, interactive biblical storytelling,

    • exploring the meaning of the Bible within the gathered community,

    • cultivating the inner life of the Spirit through spiritual practices,

    • expressing faith through lives of compassionate peacemaking and service.

Children’s Worship

First through third graders enjoy a Children’s Worship service crafted especially for young disciples on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of the month. The curriculum used is the Montessori-based Godly Play, a creative approach to children’s Christian formation. During the Hymn of Devotion, the children meet their leaders in the narthex and walk together to the Children’s Worship room in Building B. After a greeting and song of praise, the leader imaginatively tells a Bible story using a variety of materials such as figurines, backdrops, and landscapes. The children are then invited to “wonder” about the story and respond creatively through artwork or reverent play with the story materials. Through Godly Play story-telling, children become familiar with the  theological language, symbols, and rituals of the church, and grow spiritually as they curiously engage their developing faith.

Parents may pick up their children from the Children's Worship room (B244)
at the conclusion of the worship service.
